Taking advantage of the advent of the edge-lit LED backlight LCD TV of Samsung Electronics in Korea in 2009, the reason for the adoption of LED has shifted from the original “high-quality image” to the “design-oriented” with the advantage of ultra-thin. The "DisplaySearchLED Integrated Forum 2010" is scheduled to be held on May 11th, and the second article of the latest LED commentary series of analysts who are scheduled to attend the forum is published. Of course, major companies are emphasizing the design, environmental protection and high image quality of their products. However, the focus is different. It can be said that Royal Philips Electronics of Europe is focusing on environmental protection, Japanese manufacturers Sharp will focus on high image quality, while Korean manufacturers will focus on the design of ultra-thin advantages. Recently, Sony and Toshiba have both announced that they will introduce new models that are more design-oriented to the market.
In the severe market environment where LCD TV prices continue to decline and commercialization is gradually advancing, the biggest goal of equipped with LED backlights is to obtain a premium. Recently, in China, local brands have also begun to be equipped with LED backlights. The reason is that by providing LED backlights, consumers can be given a high-quality impression (PremiumImage) and can sell at a slightly higher price.
In 2013, the LED backlight will be equipped with a rate of more than 60%, and the direct type will gradually increase. The published "Quarterly Global TV Supply Survey Report" (TV data with double-speed drive ICs and LCD TVs with LED backlights) Data collection version). The report predicts that the demand for LED backlights for LCD TVs in 2013 will be approximately 140 million units, and the LED backlights in LCD TVs will be equipped with more than 60%.
The report captures the respective performances of the edge-lit and direct-lit LED backlights and makes predictions. Although the edge-emitting LED backlights are mainstream in 2010, it is expected that the market share of direct-lit LED backlights will gradually increase to 17% in 2013 (Figure 2). First, due to the use of the edge-emitting type, the number of LEDs to be cut and the efficiency increase will be gradually advanced. After that, the direct type that can greatly reduce the power consumption by the full local brightness control (LocalDimming) will gradually increase.
At the "DisplaySearchLED Forum 2010" held on May 11th, professional analysts will give a detailed introduction based on the latest LED survey data.
