I. Background Description PTA is one of the important bulk organic raw materials, and is closely related to various aspects of the national economy such as chemical fiber, light industry, electronics, and construction. PTA production and processing are more concentrated, so PTA storage generally uses thousands of tons of super large silo. Because PTA is in fine powder and the dust in the bin is serious, the traditional radar is seriously affected by dust, and the silo height is often over 20m, and it is almost impossible to measure.
In view of this large tonnage and solid dust silo, a chemical fiber manufacturer adopted a Kistler-Morse SMD weighing level meter as its 3,600 PTA tank level solution.

Second, technical analysis PTA's storage bins belong to the group of silos, the entire silo "sit" in the bottom of the steel plate on the ring, capacity 3600 square, about 2000T. When the material is loaded, the steel rings are longitudinally shortened and stretched laterally (see Figure 2 for details). These deformation variables are proportional to the weight loaded. As long as these tiny deformations are detected, the weight of the material in the silo can be known.
The KM patch sensor is tightly fixed to the steel ring at the bottom of the silo with bolts. When the steel ring changes, it will drive the patch sensor to deform together, and the shape will be “perceived” by the ultra-high sensitivity strain gauge inside the sensor. The variables are converted into electrical signals and the silo weight value is finally obtained.

We mount the patch-type sensors in close contact with the ring on the bottom of the bin, install two at intervals of 4.7, install a total of 20 sensors, detect deformations from all directions, and summarize the data through the secondary instrument and design it as 4- The 20mA signal enters the DCS system.

SMD sensors support no-stop installation. Sensors can be installed when the silo is not empty, which greatly facilitates retrofit projects. Using this feature, it is very convenient to complete the installation and wiring of the equipment.

Third, the conclusion For the large tonnage powder silo, the patch-type weight level gauge has high accuracy, compact size, easy installation, and convenient maintenance. Can be easily applied to new projects, equipment transformation. It can be used as material level measurement, especially solid material level measurement under harsh environment is a better choice.
About Kistler-Morse Corporation Kistler-Morse Corporation (referred to as KM) is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA. The company was established in the 1960s. Focus on the design, production and sales of weight level meters and ultrasonic level meters. Its uniquely designed patch weighing products have been widely recognized for its simple and quick installation and stable performance. After more than half a century of development, it has extensive application experience in steel, power, cement, non-ferrous metal, food and other industries.
